At the age of 16, Kym started her career by reaching the final of the “Dutch Next Generation” model contest. Later, Kym also became a finalist at the “Ford” model of the world contest in 1996. The previous “Go and Sees that Kym made at that time in Milan, New York, Paris, Brussels etc. where represented by “De Boekers in Amsterdam” and resulted in many bookings or jobs for commercial and editorial photography, films, TV leaders and fashion shows.

It was there that she met and worked together with the most famous photographers of the world like Inez van Lamsweerde, Carli Hermes and many others. At the catwalk Kym showed the collection of many great designer like Ann de Meulenmeester, Victor and Rolf and Vivienne Westwood. Vivienne Westwood made her choice for Kym as the face for her famous calendar in 1994 created by Inez van Lamsweerde. Covers and editorial for international glossy’s like Vogue, Elegance etc. Commercials for Dommelsch beer, Elle or Mitsubishi, body fashion, stockings, jewelery… Kym has the experience in front of the camera.

While she was working as a model, Kym understood the important position taken by the hair and make-up artists. Each shoot needs an original and preferable look coming out of the mind and thoughts of the art- director and photographer. The Visagist has a central position between both thoughts and must be able to translate and visualize them to the bewitched final result, relating the character and face of the model, the light at the set and the time spirit.

This challenged Kym 17 years ago to start with the hair and make-up education at the “John Kattenberg make-up school” located at the House of Orange in Amsterdam. Despite her experience behind the camera and certified by John as a make-up artist, Kym also had to start at the bottom, as an upcoming talent. But working hard, together with famous make-up artists and assisting them brought Kym the necessary routine. Now a day’s she is well respected. Kym has the experience in both disciplines… in front of the camera… or back stage.
